Free to low-cost veterinary care is a lifeline that Paw Street provides for low-income families with furry family members. When a beloved companion animal needs assistance, Paw Street wants to help make that happen.
According to the National Humane Society, there are 20 million pets in poverty right now.
Imagine how many struggling families that means. How many families are working hard to keep their pets in their family – making hard decisions between putting food on the table and getting vital pet food for their animals?
We know that veterinary care expenses can overwhelm a small budget and make it impossible to get adequate care. We know all too well the agony and heartbreak that pet owners feel when they are forced to sacrifice the unconditional love and companionship of a pet they care so deeply for, simply because they are struggling financially.
2023 was a busy year for us at Paw Street and that is putting the facts mildly. Requests for assistance to help with the cost of treating a sick or injured pet is expected to rise in 2024.
As anyone with a pet can imagine, the cost of vet care and other basic needs for pets can drain our funds very quickly, which is why it is of utmost importance that any funds we provide for any kind of assistance are replenished quickly so we can continue to maintain a healthy reserve for local pets in need.
For all the reasons mentioned above-we are always reaching out to people and businesses for help each year.
If you live or do business in Posey, Warrick, Vanderburgh and Gibson counties in Southern Indiana and care about the pets and people in your community, please give to Paw Street Inc so we can continue to provide financial assistance to help bonded pets and humans remain together during difficult times.

We also provide clients with resources such as grant referrals and fundraising ideas to help close in the money gap.
All clients seeking financial assistance for veterinarian care of a sick or injured pet must first exhaust all other resources such as CareCredit or other credit cards, savings, asking for help from family, friends and in cases where cost is high - hosting a fundraiser to help cover costs of treatments by a veterinarian.
Financial Assistance WILL NOT be approved for any medical care, diagnostic tests or treatment that has already taken place. We DO NOT reimburse clients for bills that have been previously paid. An itemized estimate of care MUST be sent to PAW STREET from a veterinarian before financial assistance can be approved.
In some cases, we cannot provide financial assistance if there is a previous balance due to the attending veterinarian.
In cases where cost will be substantial, Clients may be referred to other outside organizations that provide a portion of financial assistance for vet care. We may ask pet parents to provide some amount towards the cost of vet care or host a fundraiser campaign to cover a portion of the vet bill.
