FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING FOR ASSISTANCE

Low Income and homeless pet owners residing in Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Gibson Counties in Southern Indiana.
ALL PETS AND THEIR OWNERS MUST HAVE A WELL-ESTABLISHED AMOUNT OF TIME TOGETHER IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE.

  • Proof of income (Examples :most recent paycheck stub, state assistance determinaton lettters or social security income statement)
  • Proof of residency (valid driver’s license, lease/rental agreement, recent utility bill, etc.)
  • Valid identification (driver’s license, state-issued identification, or passport
  • Current Rabies Certificate or copy of most recent vet visit if available.

It all depends on the cost and how much funds we have available for non-emergency vet care.  We can also provide clients with resources such as grant referrals and fundraising ideas to help close in the money gap.

All clients seeking financial assistance for veterinarian care of a sick or injured pet must first exhaust all other resources such as CareCredit or other credit cards, savings, asking for help from family, friends and in cases where cost is high - hosting a fundraiser to help cover costs of treatments by a veterinarian.

Financial Assistance WILL NOT be approved for any medical care, diagnostic tests or treatment that has already taken place. We DO NOT reimburse clients for bills that have been previously paid. An itemized estimate of care MUST be sent to PAW STREET from a veterinarian for approval.  In some cases, we cannot provide financial assistance if there is a balance due to veterinarian.

In cases where cost will be substantial, Clients may be referred to other outside organizations that provide a portion of financial assistance for vet care. Many of our partner organizations demand that clients provide some of the payment or host a fundraiser campaign to cover a portion of the vet bill.

**Paw Street does not provide financial assistance for Emergency Vet Care.

It's important to know that we only provide TEMPORARY assistance for pets that have well established relationships with their owners. This means we do not provide our services to people with puppies or kittens or litters of such.

All pets must be spayed or neutered in order to receive assistance. For pets that aren't yet fixed, we offer $25 spay/neuter vouchers to those with qualifying incomes.

We ask that all pet owners who receive financial assistance from Paw Street to please give back by volunteering for Community Service. Typically, we ask for one hour of community service for every $10 we spend on a pet.  These terms are negotiable and may or not be mandatory.

Client/Pet transportation is NOT provided by Paw Street Volunteers.  Clients are expected to provide their own transportation to appointments and pet supply pickup locations.
WE ARE NOT LICENSED OR INSURED TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR PAW STREET BUSINESS.
PLEASE DO NOT ASK US TO MAKE EXCEPTIONS.
